Mines will soon be moving to a modern- system access tool that will transition every student, staff, and faculty member to a secure single sign-on (SSO) portal via my.mines.edu. This tool, called Okta, will simplify multi-factor authentication (MFA) usage and make access to the software you are authorized to use easier and more secure.
What can you expect?
Over March 20-23, the initial Okta portal (my.mines.edu) will go live with a limited number of applications. Simultaneously, Trailhead will be updated to the newest version, and the software access icons in Trailhead will be moved to Okta. The following applications are scheduled to be included in the initial March release:
Banner | Canvas | Chrome River | Cognos | Trailhead | Convercent | Degree Works |
OnBase | DiggerNet | Teams/ Outlook/ Office 365 |
Famis | Geode Scheduler | Health Portal | Sapling |
International Students and Scholar Services | KnowBe4 | Zoom | Team Dynamix | MAPS | Mastering Engineering | Residence Life Housing Portal |
Mines Dining Website | Mines Help Center | My Library Account | OneAegis | Parchment | Page Up | Percipio |
Tao | Turnitin | Vacation Sick Leave | You at Mines | Google Suite | Book Store | CRS |
Our new MFA tool, Okta Verify, will become available for those who want to start using it, but it will not be required yet. DUO will remain the default method to ensure MFA for the rest of the spring semester.
The second phase of the Okta roll-out will occur after Spring Commencement, over the weekend of May 13. At this time, DUO will be shut off, and everyone who still needs to transition to Okta Verify for MFA will be required to do so. This transition will complete the move to Okta and prepare us for the Workday integration on July 1.
What do you need to do?
March 23 – You can access the Mines SSO Portal at my.mines.edu, which will have a select number of applications available. DUO will remain the default MFA tool, with Okta Verify available for those ready to make the move.
May 13 – Duo will be shut off, and Okta Verify will be the only MFA tool to access Mines applications. You will need to download the Okta Verify app on your phone, which will replace DUO. More applications will be available via my.mines.edu.
July 1 – Workday will go live with the Okta portal, with most applications available through the portal.
There is never a perfect time to make these types of systems changes. I appreciate your support as we move to improve your user experience accessing authorized software with increased security.
Your input is appreciated and can be shared directly with me at andrewjmoore@mines.edu.
