SUBJECT: Single Sign-On/New Trailhead Go Live 3/18 – What to Expect
TO: campus email lists
Mines faculty, students, and staff,
As I shared in my message to campus in January, Mines is excited to launch on Saturday, March 18, a modern single sign-on (SSO) portal for accessing university systems and applications. The portal will improve Mines’ overall security and resiliency while making it easier to access your favorite applications.
The new SSO portal my.mines.edu – powered by a new enterprise system called Okta – will better protect Mines and your data, and enhance the user experience by allowing you to quickly and securely connect with applications on any device. Mines community members will get the benefit of the following:
-
Most of your application access in one place
-
Secure access on any device
-
One web address and set of credentials to remember
At the initial launch on March 18, many apps now accessed through Trailhead will move to Okta at my.mines.edu. This means you won’t have to sign in multiple times to access essential campus services like Banner, Canvas, TDX (IT, HR, MAPS requests), Famis (facilities requests), Chrome River (expense management), and Vacation/Sick Leave.
Trailhead will also be updated at the same time. The new Trailhead will have a customizable dashboard focusing on the content that matters most to you. The card-based dashboard will come with preset cards based on your campus role, but all cards can be shuffled around (like the apps on your phone), removed, or added based on your preferences.
The my.mines.edu (Okta SSO) portal and Trailhead upgrade will go live on March 18 during Spring Break as the first phase of the Okta project. Additional phases will allow us to fully implement Okta SSO in preparation for the Workday transition on July 1.
More information on how to log in to Okta will be available soon.
Thanks, Andrew
