How can Gradescope enhance teaching and learning?

  • By delivering detailed feedback more quickly using specialized rubrics built and adapted during the grading process
  • By ensuring a more consistent evaluation of student performance with the application of a single set of parameters and comments for every student
  • By expanding assessment possibilities for larger courses previously limited to multiple choice or other autograded question types due to time constraints

ITS is excited to announce a new tool, Gradescope! Gradescope supports assignments like problem sets and projects as well as template assignments like worksheets, quizzes, and exams. With Gradescope, instructors can administer, collect, and grade paper-based, digital, and programming assignments in a quick and easy workflow without the need to convert assignments to a different format. Gradescope is also a great solution for facilitating remote assessments  download.

How It Works

You can sign up for a Gradescope account (Links to an external site.) on the Gradescope website with your Mines email address. Once you have signed up for an account, create your course in Gradescope (Links to an external site.) and link it to your Canvas course. See this guide for an overview of how to get started moving your assessments to Gradescope (Links to an external site.)

Single Sign On with your Mines (Links to an external site.) account is being configured and will be available soon!

Canvas Integration Instructions

New and existing Gradescope users can link Gradescope content to Canvas courses by following the brief instructional video to the right. Written instructions are

From the course dashboard in Gradescope, go to Course Settings in the left sidebar, scroll down to the Canvas Course section, and click Link. The first time you do this, you will be taken to the Canvas website, where you can log in to your Canvas account. After you log in, click Authorize to authorize Gradescope to save your Canvas credentials. If you ever want to un-link your Canvas account, you can do so by going to your Edit Account page, scrolling down to Linked Accounts, and clicking the Remove button next to the Canvas account.

Once you’re back to the Link Canvas Course dialog, select your Canvas course from the dropdown menu and click Link Course. Your Canvas course is now linked to Gradescope. You can change the link or unlink the course at any time from the Course Settings page. Note that changing the link or unlinking a Canvas course will also unlink any linked assignments or students on the course roster.

For more information on using Gradescope in Canvas, see the Canvas and Gradescope Instructor Guide. (Links to an external site.)
