Microsoft Teams Desktop Application Installation and Workshops

In support of our virtual working arrangements and in response to many of the calls and inquiries that have been coming into ITS the past week, ITS is pleased to make two announcements regarding Microsoft Teams and the Mines community.

  • ITS is installing Microsoft Teams on all workstations in the ADIT domain.

The ITS team is preparing to install Microsoft Teams to workstations that don’t already have it installed. Microsoft Teams is an excellent tool for collaborative activities like chat, meetings, and real-time collaboration among other features that will improve our ability to work together virtually.

The installation will take place in the evening and will be a silent install, so no action is needed from you and you will not notice anything until you see a new Teams icon [] will appear in your Start menu. NOTE: After installation, Teams will auto-start upon login. You can override this behavior in the app Settings -> General -> Application -> Auto-start application. Or contact the Mines Service Center for help.

  • ITS is hosting weekly Teams Workshops for staff every Wednesday morning.

Starting this Wednesday, ITS will host weekly Teams Workshop meetings for Mines staff to learn, test and experiment with Teams in order to become familiar with its use and features. The format will be open and casual. It is not intended to be a comprehensive training session, rather just get us learning and using the basic functions. The workshops will focus on chats, meetings and collaboration, but we will also experiment with the other features of Teams.

Please join us on Wednesdays from 8:00 – 9:00 am. The meeting invitation is attached for your convenience. Double-click on the invitation to add it to your calendar. Feel free to join at any time. If you can’t make it to tomorrow’s workshop, we will be having them every Wednesday, so join us! NOTE: We may increase the frequency of these training sessions if demand increases. For teaching faculty, Zoom Pro is the preferred and approved tool for remote teaching, and ITS is working on purchasing even more licenses to cover not only the teaching faculty but the TAs as well.

Please contact the Mines Help Center at (303)284-2345 if you have any questions or concerns.

Best regards,

ITS Support Team
